“Larry and I are to do a picture about Nelson and Lady Hamilton. I am extremely dubious about it. But now one does not plan a career much as it seems futile and we are certainly only doing this for financial purposes which are useful in these days. Hollywood is more odious each time and I loathe it heartily and wish and wish I could come home.” A letter Vivien Leigh wrote to her first husband, Leigh Holman, after her initial casting in That Hamilton Woman. She began filming on September 18th, 1940. She later added, “The costumes are enchanting, the sets very big, and the script pretty awful, which is about the usual Hollywood combination.”
